Was ALLEN GINSBERG - the poet - truly insane???

In a letter to LIONEL TRILLING in 1948, to his mentor and teacher at Columbia University, GINSBERG wrote : "...The poems I write are my own reflections of my own state and the state of the cosmos, and are written in a secret language." To JACK KEROUAC he wrote:"I am insane." And in a letter to Wilhelm Reich(German-born psychiatrist living in the United States) he begged for psychiatric help explaining that both he and his birth-mother NAOMI had a series of nervous breakdowns. Dr. Hans Wassing - NAOMI's therapist, was treating both mother and son - before ALLEN was involuntarily committed the first time. ALLEN GINSBERG described his situation with his 'nutty' mother as "...the normal Oedipal entanglement." WELL WAS GINSBERG A 'NUTCASE'??? Imagine ALLEN GINSBERG in the age of the internet - writing copious letters, poems, diatribes, rants to all and sundry!!! Yes, ALLEN was insane...but a very good POET and harbinger of a changing culture - which always 'changes' and changes again.
