La Huaca Liber

La Huaca Liber
(Genesis of the Bible according to and translated
from the Columbian Choco)

Alprincipio creo mil doses
Los cielos y la tierra
(In the beginning thousands of gods
Created the earth and the skies)
Because in nothingness fear dwells
Fear dwells in deep spaces
And in man's primordial vision
Deep waters seperate us
Deep water is always there
Because man always awaits a deluge
Making us mute and afraid
When we fail to sing
During dios del Lucero
When the god of morning star
Glistens bright in black heavens
Toci Hawandama - our mother creator
Formed the first man - Ah Canul
From the dust of the ground
And She breathed wind
Into his nostrils
And Ah Canul gulped
The life giving air
That precedes spring rain
When souls soar with expectation
And the earth's beauty
Is never a mirage
In this fragile moment of creation
When words are quintessentially prayers
To Ah Canul who knew he must go forth
From land where all clans of the soil
Would find blessing through him
And Toci Hawandama set Ah Canul
In the balsawood canoe of salvation
Before opening the magic gates
For all the world's languages
To flood in every morning.
