movie review:'GRAN TORINO' ---
A strong showing for both CLINT EASTWOOD as director/actor. Old 'WHITE' people may enjoy this more than other races...An old retired FORD worker played curmudgeonly by EASTWOOD lives in a DETROIT of useless layabout self-important street-corner BLACK'Niggers' and HMONG=viet 'gangbangers'. CLINTWOOD's character WALT KAWOLSKI is a racist, a recent widower, an unwilling communicant at his wife's Catholic church, and a neighbor of a HMONG family who he refers to as 'GOOKS' among other trenchant endearments. The movie is fairly predictable but is never 'off-key' in its direction/dialogue. Mr. EASTWOOD's gravelly rendition of the song 'GRAN TORINO' over the final credits matches his singing performance in PAINT YOUR WAGONS - but comes across as fitting for this film. EASTWOOD's performance is first rate as an older AMERIKAN attempting to cope with the changes economic, cultural, racial, religious-spiritual in a country that is not his sole domain anymore. SEE 'GRAN TORINO' YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
